PHI Incorporated Stock Upgraded (PHII)

Tickers in this article: PHII

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- PHI Incorporated (Nasdaq:PHII) has been upgraded by TheStreet Ratings from hold to buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its revenue growth, compelling growth in net income, good cash flow from operations, largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures and solid stock price performance. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company shows low profit margins.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • PHII's revenue growth has slightly outpaced the industry average of 14.4%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues rose by 15.4%. Growth in the company's revenue appears to have helped boost the earnings per share.
  • The net income growth from the same quarter one year ago has significantly exceeded that of the S&P 500 and the Energy Equipment & Services industry. The net income increased by 181.5% when compared to the same quarter one year prior, rising from -$2.67 million to $2.18 million.
  • Net operating cash flow has increased to $18.05 million or 25.16% when compared to the same quarter last year. The firm also exceeded the industry average cash flow growth rate of -6.51%.
  • Looking at where the stock is today compared to one year ago, we find that it is not only higher, but it has also clearly outperformed the rise in the S&P 500 over the same period. Although other factors naturally played a role, the company's strong earnings growth was key. Looking ahead, the stock's rise over the last year has already helped drive it to a level which is relatively expensive compared to the rest of its industry. We feel, however, that the other strengths this company displays justify these higher price levels.
  • PHII's debt-to-equity ratio of 0.69 is somewhat low overall, but it is high when compared to the industry average, implying that the management of the debt levels should be evaluated further. Even though the debt-to-equity ratio shows mixed results, the company's quick ratio of 3.44 is very high and demonstrates very strong liquidity.

PHI, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, provides helicopter transportation services to the integrated energy, and independent exploration and production companies primarily in the Gulf of Mexico and internationally. The company has a P/E ratio of 36.5, above the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. PHI has a market cap of $65.6 million and is part of the services sector and transportation industry.
